《The Prophet-On Self-knowledge》
And a men said, speak to us of self-knowledge.
And he answered, saying:
" [8 ]2 T, h* b$ W3 a- zYour hearts know in silence the secrets of the day sand the nights.
7 R+ `" T7 r8 E: L$ k7 }9 kBut your ears thirst for the sound of your heart's knowledge.
You would know in words that which you have always known in thought.
You would touch with your fingers the naked body of your dreams.
- z" F0 N9 x- S. ]3 rAnd it is well you should.
; S6 z& h1 L5 Z) jThe hidden well-pring of your soul must needs rice and run murmuring to the sea;
) g7 X* a$ k5 WAnd the treasure of your infinite depths would be revealed to your eyes.
But let there be no scales to weigh your unknown treasure;
And seek not the depths of your knowledge with staff or sounding line.
7 Y, q1 H2 C7 n. U! o+ wFor self if a sea boundless and measureless.
Say not,"I have found the truth," but rather, "I have found a truth."
( T6 c# D; B* h3 HSay not,"I have found the path of soul," say rather, "I have met the soul walking upon my path.
) _1 s3 i/ [0 T) }For the soul walks upon all paths.
The soul walks not upon a line, neither does it grow like a reed.
$ |: h" ]4 T: d3 q+ l4 f* CThe soul unfolds itself,like a lotus of countless petals.
一位男子说：请给我们讲讲自知的事。
他于是说道：
你们的心灵在静谧中领悟昼夜的秘密。
; S& _3 X7 g. R! k+ D7 E你们的耳朵却渴望聆听你们心的知识的声音。
1 X3 o9 b2 i0 k+ a$ f( y  d0 a( ]/ y你们想用语言解析那原本用思想理解的东西。
你们想用手指碰触梦中赤裸的实体。
4 J: y, h) J9 |7 l: v$ p这是你们本该做的。
# v' N! M5 @3 y' h( o你们灵魂中潜藏的泉源必然需要喷涌，澎湃着流入大海；
# }" q& y. p. _- W% N' J* ?你们无法测度的宝藏将展现在你们面前。
但不要用天平来称量那未知的宝藏；
4 V) S: v# R/ u3 f不要用标尺或测绳来探量你们的知识。
; f$ w0 x- D5 j1 H/ W+ _) d9 W- _因为自我是广阔的无法度量的大海。
不要说：“我找到了真理。”而应说：“我找到了一条真理。”
8 P3 Y1 v* ?; y不要说：“我找到了灵魂之路。”而应说：“我遇到了在我小径上漫步的灵魂。”
: O5 H$ Z( v  K* H. C因为灵魂在一切道路上漫步。
- i. q$ s6 F2 h7 n' E灵魂不只在一条道路上行走，也不像芦苇般成长。
5 z# o9 E( I$ m- o+ S灵魂伸展自我，犹如一朵有着无数花瓣的莲花绽放。

《The Prophet-On Pain》

And a woman spoke, saying, tell us of pain.

And he said:

Your pain is the breaking of the shell that encloses your understanding.

Even as the stone of the fruit must break, that its heart may stand in the sun, so must you know pain.

And could you keep your heart in wonder at the daily miracles of your life, your pain would not seem less wondrous than your joy;

And you would accept the seasons of your heart, even as you have always accepted the seasons that pass over your fields.

And you would watch with serenity through the winters of your grief.

Much of your pain is self-chosen.

It is the bitter potion by which the physician within you heals your sick self.

Therefore trust the physician, and drink his remedy in silence and tranquility:

For his hand, though heavy and hard, is guided by the tender hand of the unseen.

And the cup he brings, though it burn your lips, has been fashioned of the clay   which the Potter moistened with his own sacred tears.

一位妇人说：给我们谈谈痛苦吧。

他说道：

你们的痛苦正是那破壳而出的悟性。

就像果核必须破壳而出，才能享受阳光，你们也必须明白痛苦。

如果你们的心灵能够惊叹于日常生活的奇迹，你们的痛苦就会与你们的快乐一样神奇；

你们会习惯心灵的四季变换，如同习惯接受田野的四季变换。

这样，你们就能以宁静之心看待你们肃杀的冬季。

你们的痛苦多是你们自己的选择。

它是你们内心的医生为治愈你们病痛给你们的一味苦药。

因此信任这位医生，平静地喝下他的药剂：

因为他的手虽然重而硬，却由一只看不见的温柔的手指引着。

他带来的杯子，虽然灼烧你的唇，却是由陶匠自己神圣的泪水打湿陶土而铸成。

5 ~9 c8 f. @# Q- A* [) D$ o: }0 I; `& ^And an astronomer said, master, what of time?
4 `, u* P/ g. \. TAnd he answered:
( T- v) \* [8 s+ y3 x3 TYou would measure time the measureless and immeasureable.
You would adjust your conduct and even direct the course of your spirit according to hours and seasons.
Of time you would make a stream upon whose bank you would sit and watch its flowing.
Yet the timeless in you is aware of life's timelessness,
# F) u0 u1 A: h# G0 e  O1 Z8 eAnd knows that yesterday is but today's memory and tomorrow is today's dream.
: a6 X& @4 ?: Z) J/ BAnd that which sings and contemplates in you is still dwelling within the bounds of that first moment which scattered the stars into space.
Who among you dose not feel that his power to love is boundless?
3 j1 y) m* e" i1 g0 VAnd yet who dose not feel that very love, though boundless, encompassed with in the centerof his being, and moving not from love thought to love thought,nor from love deeds to other love deeds?
3 ~- i! j5 J' Z. c) ]( t; L" {And is not time even as love is, undivided and spaceless?
2 I' l6 u) d  I! Q. B( xBut if in your thought you must measure time into seasons, let each  season encircle all the other seasons,
; k7 d6 V$ I1 M* `! N* F4 f9 }, }8 ]And let today embrace  the past with remembrance and the future with longing.
《先知-时间》
一位天文学家说：先知，关于时间，你是怎么看呢？
" ~8 f6 ~% a/ h8 X8 g他于是说道：
你们要测量无法也无从测量的时间。
) w6 T" }$ y& ]5 j* A你们想依照时辰和季节调整你们的行为，甚至引导你们的精神。
你们想挖掘一条时间的溪流，然后坐在岸边目送淙淙流水。
然而，你们内心那不受限制的灵魂，却意识到了生命的无限，并且明白昨日不过是今日的回忆，明日不过是今日的梦想。
在你们心中歌唱和冥想的， 仍然居于最初繁星满布于星空的那一瞬间。
& q# L" m7 `- P  q6 m# R# ?, O你们之中有谁会感觉不到爱的力量无边？
有谁会感觉不到爱虽然无边，却萦绕在他周围，无法在爱的思绪中流转，也无法在爱的行为中移挪？
时间难道不正如爱，不可分割而又无边无际吗？
但你们若认为必须用季节来衡量时间，那就让每一个季节来蕴涵其他季节， 让今天用回忆拥抱过去，用热望拥抱未来。
